khaliah: often awed, always hungry

born + raised in Philadelphia, khaliah d. pitts (kdp) is a writer, culinary artist + curator. a lifelong creative (and self-proclaimed griot), she is continuously searching for new forms of expression + storytelling. although her primary medium is writing, she finds herself exploring creation through short film, curating events + spaces of art + liberation, crafting wire jewelry + decor, and, most often, cooking, eating + gushing about food. she dedicates her work to preserving culture + documenting stories of the African diaspora, crafting spaces of liberation + joy.

this delicious photo was snapped on Booby Cay Island, a short boat ride off the shores of Seven Mile Beach, Negril, Jamaica. while my love + i were sipping Red Stripes, frolicking in the water among coral, urchins + some not at all shy fish, our hosts caught + cooked (over a well-used fire pit) the freshest, sweetest lobster we’d ever tasted. it was perfect in texture + taste with nothing but a little butter + that crispy char, a side of succulent corn on the cob, slices of wheat bread meant for sopping up the juices + a sugary coke to wash it down. it was easily one of the most satisfying + memorable meals we’ve ever had.
